Introduction: Extraforaminal stenosis in L5-S1, or far-out syndrome (FOS), is defined as L5 nerve compression by the transverse process (TP) of the L5 and the ala of the sacrum and disc bulging with/without osteophytes and/or the thickened lumbosacral and extraforaminal ligament. This study aims to describe the unilateral biportal endoscopic decompression technique of the extraforaminal stenosis at L5-S1 or far out syndrome and evaluate its clinical results with a literature review. Case Report: A 44-year-old male presented with severe right sharp shooting pain in the buttock, thigh, leg, foot, and/or toes with numbness in the foot and toes (Visual Analog Scale [VAS] 8/10) for six months with an Oswestry disability index (ODI) score of 70%. Her pain aggravated when bending forward and performing daily routine activities. He also complained of exaggeration of pain in daily regular activities. On physical examination, power in the right lower limbs was 5/5 as per the Medical Research Council (MRC) grading, and deep tendon reflexes were normal. Pre-operative X-ray and CT scan showed no instability or calcified disc osteophyte, and magnetic resonance imaging showed extraforaminal stenosis due to disc herniation at L5-S1 in Figure 1. We performed UBE-L5-S1extraforaminal discectomy surgery to resolve his symptoms. The operative time was 68 min; blood loss was 30 mL. After surgery, the patient was followed up at one week, six weeks, three months, six months, 12 months, and two years. The pain and tingling sensation in the legs improved at the 1-week follow-up, with a VAS score of 0/10 and an ODI score of 10% at the 2-year follow-up. Patient satisfaction was surveyed using Macnab's criteria at the final follow-up visit of 2 years and was found to be excellent. Post-operative imaging showed a good extraforaminal decompression at L5-S. Conclusion: Unilateral biportal endoscopy technique has brought a paradigm shift in the treatment of spinal pathologies and has served as another treatment option for the past two decades. The UBE decompression technique for extraforaminal stenosis at L5-S1 has the advantages of minimally invasive spine surgery; it is a safe and effective treatment option for treating extraforaminal stenosis at L5-S1.

Developing a robust artificial intelligence of things (AIoT) system with a self-powered triboelectric sensor for harsh environment is challenging because environmental fluctuations are reflected in triboelectric signals. This study presents an environmentally robust triboelectric tire monitoring system with deep learning to capture driving information in the triboelectric signals generated from tire-road friction. The optimization of the process and structure of a laser-induced graphene (LIG) electrode layer in the triboelectric tire is conducted, enabling the tire to detect universal driving information for vehicles/robotic mobility, including rotation speeds of 200-2000 rpm and contact fractions of line. Employing a hybrid model combining short-term Fourier transform with a convolution neural network-long short-term memory, the LIG-based triboelectric tire monitoring (LTTM) system decouples the driving information, such as traffic lines and road states, from varied environmental conditions of humidity (10%-90%) and temperatures (50-70 °C). The real-time line and road state recognition of the LTTM system is confirmed on a mobile platform across diverse environmental conditions, including fog, dampness, intense sunlight, and heat shimmer. This work provides an environmentally robust monitoring AIoT system by introducing a self-powered triboelectric sensor and hybrid deep learning for smart mobility.

Non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) significantly enhance photovoltaic performance in organic solar cells (OSCs) using halogenated solvents and additives. However, these solvents are environmentally detrimental and unsuitable for industrial-scale production, and the issue of OSCs' poor long-term stability persists. This report introduces eight asymmetric NFAs (IPCnF-BBO-IC2F, IPCnF-BBO-IC2Cl, IPCnCl-BBO-IC2F, and IPCnCl-BBO-IC2Cl, where n = 1 and 2). These NFAs comprise a 12,13-bis(2-butyloctyl)-3,9-diundecyl-12,13-dihydro-[1,2,5]thiadiazolo[3,4-e]thieno[2'',3'':4',5']thieno[2',3':4,5]pyrrolo[3,2-g]thieno[2',3':4,5]thieno-[3,2-b]indole (BBO) core. One end of the core attaches to a mono- or di-halogenated 9H-indeno[1,2-b]pyrazine-2,3-dicarbonitrile (IPC) end group (IPC1F, IPC1Cl, IPC2F, or IPC2Cl), while the other end connects to a 2-(5,6-dihalo-3-oxo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-ylidene)malononitrile (IC) end group (IC2F or IC2Cl). The optical and electronic properties of these NFAs can be finely tuned by controlling the number of halogen atoms. Crucially, these NFAs demonstrate excellent compatibility with PM6 even in o-xylene, facilitating the production of additive-free OSCs. The di-halogenated IPC-based NFAs outperform their mono-halogenated counterparts in photovoltaic performance within OSCs. Remarkably, the di-halogenated IPC-based NFAs maintain 94‒98% of their initial PCEs over 2000 h in air without encapsulation, indicating superior long-term device stability. These findings imply that the integration of di-halogenated IPCs in asymmetric NFA design offers a promising route to efficient, stable OSCs manufactured through environmentally friendly processes.

Cave crickets (Rhaphidophoridae) are insects of an ancient and wingless lineage within Orthoptera that are distributed worldwide except in Antarctica, and each subfamily has a high level of endemicity. Here, we show the comprehensive phylogeny of cave crickets using multi-gene datasets from mitochondrial and nuclear loci, including all extant subfamilies for the first time. We reveal phylogenetic relationships between subfamilies, including the sister relationship between Anoplophilinae and Gammarotettiginae, based on which we suggest new synapomorphies. Through biogeographic analyses based on divergence time estimations and ancestral range reconstruction, we propose novel hypotheses regarding the biogeographic history of cave crickets. We suggest that Gammarotettiginae in California originated from the Asian lineage when Asia and the Americas were connected by the Bering land bridge, and the opening of the western interior seaway affected the division of Ceuthophilinae from Tropidischiinae in North America. We estimate that Rhaphidophoridae originated at 138 Mya throughout Pangea. We further hypothesize that the loss of wings in Rhaphidophoridae could be the result of their adaptation to low temperatures in the Mesozoic era.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most prevalent neurodegenerative diseases, following Alzheimer's disease. The onset of PD is characterized by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra. Stem cell therapy has great potential for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, and human nasal turbinate-derived stem cells (hNTSCs) have been found to share some characteristics with mesenchymal stem cells. Although the Hippo signaling pathway was originally thought to regulate cell size in organs, recent studies have shown that it can also control inflammation in neural cells. METHODS: Dopaminergic neuron-like cells were differentiated from SH-SY5Y cells (DA-Like cells) and treated with 1-Methyl-4-phenylpyridinium iodide to stimulate Reactive oxidative species (ROS) production. A transwell assay was conducted to validate the effect of hNTSCs on the Hippo pathway. We generated an MPTP-induced PD mouse model and transplanted hNTSCs into the substantia nigra of PD mice via stereotaxic surgery. After five weeks of behavioral testing, the brain samples were validated by immunoblotting and immunostaining to confirm the niche control of hNTSCs. RESULTS: In-vitro experiments showed that hNTSCs significantly increased cell survival and exerted anti-inflammatory effects by controlling ROS-mediated ER stress and hippocampal signaling pathway factors. Similarly, the in-vivo experiments demonstrated an increase in anti-inflammatory effects and cell survival rate. After transplantation of hNTSCs, the PD mouse model showed improved mobility and relief from PD symptoms. CONCLUSION: hNTSCs improved the survival rate of dopaminergic neurons by manipulating the hippocampal pathway through Yes-associated protein (YAP)/transcriptional coactivator with a PDZ-binding motif (TAZ) by reducing inflammatory cytokines. In this study, we found that controlling the niche of hNTSCs had a therapeutic effect on PD lesions.

Accurate localization of membrane proteins is essential for proper cellular functioning and the integrity of cellular membranes. Post-translational targeting of peroxisomal membrane proteins (PMPs) is mediated by the cytosolic chaperone PEX19 and its membrane receptor PEX3. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying PMP targeting are poorly understood. Here, using biochemical and mass spectrometry analysis, we find that a conserved PEX19 helix, αd, is critical to prevent improper exposure of the PEX26 transmembrane domain (TMD) to cytosolic chaperones. Furthermore, the αd helix of PEX19 interacts with the cytosolic domain of the PEX3 receptor, thereby triggering PEX26 release at the correct destination membrane. The peroxisome-deficient PEX3-G138E mutant completely abolishes this secondary interaction, leading to lack of PEX3-induced PEX26 release from PEX19. These findings elucidate a dual molecular mechanism that is essential to membrane protein protection and destination-specific release by a molecular chaperone.

Binaural beat (BB) has been investigated as a potential modality to enhance sleep quality. In this study, we introduce a new form of BB, referred to as dynamic BB (DBB), which incorporates dynamically changing carrier frequency differences between the left and right ears. Specifically, the carrier frequency of the right ear varied between 100 and 103 Hz over a period, while the left ear remained fixed at 100 Hz, yielding a frequency difference range of 0 to 3 Hz. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of DBB on sleep quality. Ten healthy participants were included in a cross-over design, where they experienced both DBB and a SHAM (absence of sound) condition across two consecutive nights, with polysomnography evaluation. DBB was administrated during pre-sleep initiation, sleep onset, and transition from rapid-eye-movement (REM) to non-REM stage. DBB significantly reduced sleep latency compared to the SHAM condition. Electrocardiogram analysis revealed that exposure to DBB led to diminished heart rate variability during the pre-sleep initiation and sleep onset periods, accompanied by a decrease in low frequency power of heart rate during the sleep onset period. DBB might be effective in improving the sleep quality, suggesting its possible application in insomnia treatments.

This study proposes a solid-state two-dimensional beam-steering device based on an electro-optical phased array (EOPA) in thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) and silicon nitride (SiN) hybrid platforms, thereby eliminating the requirement for the direct etching of TFLN. Electro-optic (EO) phase modulator array comprises cascaded multimode interference couplers with an SiN strip-loaded TFLN configuration, which is designed and fabricated via i-line photolithography. Each EO modulator element with an interaction region length of 1.56 cm consumed a minimum power of 3.2 pJ/π under a half-wave voltage of 3.64 V and had an estimated modulation speed of 1.2 GHz. Subsequently, an SiN dispersive antenna with a waveguide grating was tethered to the modulator array to form an EOPA, facilitating the out-of-plane radiation of highly defined near-infrared beams. A prepared EOPA utilized EO phase control and wavelength tuning near 1550 nm to achieve a field-of-view of 22° × 5° in the horizontal and vertical directions. The proposed hybrid integrated platform can potentially facilitate low-power and high-speed beam steering.

Attempts to improve low absorption and rapid metabolic conversion of curcumin were made by developing curcumin-loaded bilayer nanoliposomes coated with chitosan and alginate for intestinal-specific drug delivery. A curcumin-loaded nano-liposome was prepared with optimized formulations with phosphatidylcholine, curcumin, chitosan, and alginate. The particle size of the optimized formulation was approximately 400 nm, and the encapsulation efficiency was more than 99%. In the in vitro release study, curcumin release from the curcumin-loaded nanoliposome with double layers of chitosan/alginate (CNL-CH/AL) was suppressed in the simulated gastric fluid (SGF, pH 1.2) and enhanced in the simulated intestinal fluid (SIF, pH 6.8). In the in vivo pharmacokinetic study in rats, the CNL-CH/AL-treated group showed a prolonged absorption pattern of curcumin and the area under the plasma concentration-time curve from 0 to 24 h (AUC0-24) was improved 109-fold compared to the control group treated with a curcumin solution without a nanocarrier.

Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of gynecologic cancer death. Among the most innovative anti-cancer approaches, the genetic concept of synthetic lethality is that mutations in multiple genes work synergistically to effect cell death. Previous studies found that although vaccinia-related kinase-1 (VRK1) associates with DNA damage repair proteins, its underlying mechanisms remain unclear. Here, we found high VRK1 expression in ovarian tumors, and that VRK1 depletion can significantly promote apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. The effect of VRK1 knockdown on apoptosis was manifested by increased DNA damage, genomic instability, and apoptosis, and also blocked non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) by destabilizing DNA-PK. Further, we verified that VRK1 depletion enhanced sensitivity to a PARP inhibitor (PARPi), olaparib, promoting apoptosis through DNA damage, especially in ovarian cancer cell lines with high VRK1 expression. Proteins implicated in DNA damage responses are suitable targets for the development of new anti-cancer therapeutic strategies, and their combination could represent an alternative form of synthetic lethality. Therefore, normal protective DNA damage responses are impaired by combining olaparib with elimination of VRK1 and could be used to reduce drug dose and its associated toxicity. In summary, VRK1 represents both a potential biomarker for PARPi sensitivity, and a new DDR-associated therapeutic target, in ovarian cancer.

No licensed vaccines or therapies exist for patients infected with Nipah virus (NiV), although an experimental human monoclonal antibody (mAb) cross-reactive to the NiV and Hendra virus (HeV) G glycoprotein, m102.4, has been tested in a phase 1 trial and has been provided under compassionate use for both HeV and NiV exposures. NiV is a highly pathogenic zoonotic paramyxovirus causing regular outbreaks in humans and animals in South and Southeast Asia. The mortality rate of NiV infection in humans ranges from 40% to more than 90%, making it a substantial public health concern. The NiV G glycoprotein mediates host cell attachment, and the F glycoprotein facilitates membrane fusion and infection. We hypothesized that a mAb against the prefusion conformation of the F glycoprotein may confer better protection than m102.4. To test this, two potent neutralizing mAbs against NiV F protein, hu1F5 and hu12B2, were compared in a hamster model. Hu1F5 provided superior protection to hu12B2 and was selected for comparison with m102.4 for the ability to protect African green monkeys (AGMs) from a stringent NiV challenge. AGMs were exposed intranasally to the Bangladesh strain of NiV and treated 5 days after exposure with either mAb (25 milligrams per kilogram). Whereas only one of six AGMs treated with m102.4 survived until the study end point, all six AGMs treated with hu1F5 were protected. Furthermore, a reduced 10 milligrams per kilogram dose of hu1F5 also provided complete protection against NiV challenge, supporting the upcoming clinical advancement of this mAb for postexposure prophylaxis and therapy.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of repeated photodynamic therapy (PDT) with a chlorin e6 (Ce6)-embedded intragastric satiety-inducing device (ISD) to maintain therapeutic effects of obesity in a juvenile pig. METHODS: The Ce6-embedded ISD was fabricated with a dipping method. Twelve pigs were divided into four groups of three and were administered control, single, biweekly, or weekly PDT, respectively. The therapeutic effects were assessed by comparing the results of phototoxicity, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, hormone and weight changes, and histological examination. RESULTS: The percentage of total body weight gain was significantly suppressed in PDT-treated pigs compared with control pigs (all p < 0.001). This suppression persisted in the repeated PDT groups, but percentage of total body weight gain gradually increased when PDT was stopped. Ghrelin levels in the PDT-treated groups were significantly lower and leptin levels were significantly higher than those in the control group (all p < 0.05). Inflammatory cell infiltration, collagen, TUNEL, and anti-ghrelin-positive deposition in the weekly group were significantly higher than those in the control, single, and biweekly groups (all p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Repeated and periodic PDT was technically feasible and safe and successfully maintained the therapeutic effects against obesity while eliminating the indwelling time and reducing ISD-related complications in pigs.

Sterol regulatory element-binding protein (SREBP)-1c is involved in cellular lipid homeostasis and cholesterol biosynthesis and is highly increased in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). However, the molecular mechanism by which SREBP-1c regulates hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) activation in NASH animal models and patients have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we examined the role of SREBP-1c in NASH and the regulation of LCN2 gene expression. Wild-type and SREBP-1c knockout (1cKO) mice were fed a high-fat/high-sucrose diet, treated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), and subjected to lipocalin-2 (LCN2) overexpression. The role of LCN2 in NASH progression was assessed using mouse primary hepatocytes, Kupffer cells, and HSCs. LCN2 expression was examined in samples from normal patients and those with NASH. LCN2 gene expression and secretion increased in CCl4-induced liver fibrosis mice model, and SREBP-1c regulated LCN2 gene transcription. Moreover, treatment with holo-LCN2 stimulated intracellular iron accumulation and fibrosis-related gene expression in mouse primary HSCs, but these effects were not observed in 1cKO HSCs, indicating that SREBP-1c-induced LCN2 expression and secretion could stimulate HSCs activation through iron accumulation. Furthermore, LCN2 expression was strongly correlated with inflammation and fibrosis in patients with NASH. Our findings indicate that SREBP-1c regulates Lcn2 gene expression, contributing to diet-induced NASH. Reduced Lcn2 expression in 1cKO mice protects against NASH development. Therefore, the activation of Lcn2 by SREBP-1c establishes a new connection between iron and lipid metabolism, affecting inflammation and HSCs activation. These findings may lead to new therapeutic strategies for NASH.

Cardiovascular diseases represent a significant threat to the overall well-being of the global population. Continuous monitoring of vital signs related to cardiovascular health is essential for improving daily health management. Currently, there has been remarkable proliferation of technology focused on collecting data related to cardiovascular diseases through daily electronic skin monitoring. However, concerns have arisen regarding potential skin irritation and inflammation due to the necessity for prolonged wear of wearable devices. To ensure comfortable and uninterrupted cardiovascular health monitoring, the concept of biocompatible electronic skin has gained substantial attention. In this review, biocompatible electronic skins for cardiovascular health monitoring are comprehensively summarized and discussed. The recent achievements of biocompatible electronic skin in cardiovascular health monitoring are introduced. Their working principles, fabrication processes, and performances in sensing technologies, materials, and integration systems are highlighted, and comparisons are made with other electronic skins used for cardiovascular monitoring. In addition, the significance of integrating sensing systems and the updating wireless communication for the development of the smart medical field is explored. Finally, the opportunities and challenges for wearable electronic skin are also examined.

This prospective single-arm study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of a refractive multifocal contact lens for the correction of presbyopia in 22 patients. The participants underwent clinical examinations before and 1 week after wearing a refractive multifocal contact lens (OptaCon ZOOM). The primary endpoints were the corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA) and distance-corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA). Defocus curve, contrast sensitivity, and ocular surface disease index (OSDI) were analyzed. A slit-lamp examination was performed for safety analysis. Contact lens comfort and patient satisfaction were assessed using a questionnaire. No significant difference in CDVA was observed before and 1 week after refractive multifocal contact lens use (p = 0.127), whereas DCNVA was significantly improved after 1 week (p < 0.001). The contrast sensitivity was not significantly affected at any spatial frequency under mesopic or photopic conditions. OSDI was significantly increased (p = 0.023). The patient-reported satisfaction scores were 96.2, 91.9, and 85.0 out of 100 at far, intermediate, and near distances, respectively. No significant adverse events were observed. Refractive multifocal contact lenses improved near vision while maintaining distance vision in presbyopic patients, without compromising contrast sensitivity. The study results suggest that OptaCon ZOOM can be considered safe and effective for the correction of presbyopia.

Effective treatment of failed back surgery syndrome (FBSS) remains challenging despite urgent medical attention requirements. Depression is a contributing factor to the development and poor prognosis of FBSS, and vice versa. We report the case of a patient with FBSS and major depressive disorder (MDD) treated with graded exercise combined with motion-style acupuncture therapy (MSAT). A 53-year-old male veteran who had undergone lumbar discectomy and laminectomy with instrumented fusion was admitted to the hospital with re-current back pain and radiative pain in the left leg. The effects of failed surgery triggered MDD as a comorbidity. After a six-week routine treatment without remarkable improvement, a three-week program of graded exercise with MSAT was applied. The numeric rating scale (NRS) and short form-36 (SF-36) were used to assess low back pain with radiating leg pain, and daily functioning levels, respectively. The voluntary walking distance of the patients was measured. To analyze the therapeutic effects and other applications of the intervention, we surveyed clinical trials using MSAT or graded exercise therapy (GET). Three weeks of graded exercise with MSAT reduced physical and mental functional disabilities (SF-36, physical component: 15.0 to 37.2, mental component: 21.9 to 30.1) as well as the intensity of low back pain and/or radiative leg pain (NRS: 50 to 30). Furthermore, as the therapeutic intensity gradually increased, there was a significant corresponding increase in daily walking distance (mean daily walking distance, the first week vs. baseline, second, and third week, 3.05 ± 0.56: 2.07 ± 0.79, 4.27 ± 0.96, and 4.72 ± 1.04 km, p = 0.04, p = 0.02, and p = 0.003, respectively). Three randomized controlled trials of GET were included, all showing statistically significant antidepressant effects in the diseased population. Graded exercise with MSAT may be an effective rehabilitative therapy for patients with FBSS and MDD who have impaired daily routines.

Cell viability was measured using the (DAPI) staining, caspase activation analysis and immunoblotting were performed. Visfatin promoted MDPC-23 odontoblast cell growth in a dose-dependent manner. Furthermore, the up-regulation of Visfatin promoted odontogenic differentiation and accelerated mineralization through an increase in representative odontoblastic biomarkers in MDPC-23 cells. However, FK-866 cell growth in a dose-dependent manner induced nuclear condensation and fragmentation. FK-866-treated cells showed H&E staining and increased apoptosis compared to control cells. The expression of anti-apoptotic factors components of the mitochondria-dependent intrinsic apoptotic pathway significantly decreased following FK-866 treatment. The expression of pro-apoptotic increased upon FK-866 treatment. In addition, FK-866 activated caspase-3 and PARP to induce cell death. In addition, after treating FK-866 for 72 h, the 3/7 activity of MDPC-23 cells increased in a concentration-dependent manner, and the IHC results also confirmed that Caspase-3 increased in a concentration-dependent. Therefore, the presence or absence of NAMPT expression in dentin cells was closely related to cell proliferation and formation of extracellular substrates.

Aqueous rechargeable zinc-ion batteries (ARZIBs) are considered as an emerging energy storage technology owing to their low cost, inherent safety, and reasonable energy density. However, significant challenges associated with electrodes, and aqueous electrolytes restrict their rapid development. Herein, ethylene glycol-choline chloride (Eg-ChCl) based hydrated deep-eutectic electrolytes (HDEEs) are proposed for RZIBs. Also, a novel V10O24·nH2O@rGO composite is prepared and investigated in combination with HDEEs. The formulated HDEEs, particularly the composition of 1 ml of EG, 0.5 g of ChCl, 4 ml of H2O, and 2 M ZnTFS (1-0.5-4-2 HDEE), not only exhibit the lowest viscosity, highest Zn2+ conductivity (20.38 mS cm-1), and the highest zinc (Zn) transference number (t+ = 0.937), but also provide a wide electrochemical stability window (>3.2 V vs ZnǁZn2+) and enabledendrite-free Zn stripping/plating cycling over 1000 hours. The resulting ZnǁV10O24·nH2O@rGO cell with 1-0.5-4-2 HDEE manifests high reversible capacity of ≈365 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1, high rate-performance (delivered ≈365/223 mAh g-1 at 0.1/10 mA g-1) and enhanced cycling performance (≈63.10% capacity retention in the 4000th cycle at 10 A g-1). Furthermore, 1-0.5-4-2 HDEE support feasible Zn-ion storage performance across a wide temperature range (0-80 °C) FInally, a ZnǁV10O24·nH2O@rGO pouch-cell prototype fabricated with 1-0.5-4-2 HDEE demonstrates good flexibility, safety, and durability.

We analyzed chemoport insertion procedures to evaluate infectious morbidity and factors causing infection. This single-center retrospective study included 1690 cases of chemoport implantation between January 2017 and December 2020. Overall, chemoports were inserted in 1582 patients. The average duration of chemoport use was 481 days (range 1-1794, median 309). Infections occurred in 80 cases (4.7%), with 0.098 per 1000 catheter-days. Among the 80 cases in which chemoports were removed because of suspected infection, bacteria were identified in 48 (60%). Significantly more cases of left internal jugular vein punctures were noted in the infected group (15 [18.8%] vs. 147 [9.1%]; p = 0.004). Pulmonary embolism was significantly different between the infection groups (3 [3.8%] vs. 19 (1.2%), p = 0.048). The hazard ratio was 2.259 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.288-3.962) for the left internal jugular vein, 3.393 (95% CI 1.069-10.765) for pulmonary embolism, and 0.488 (95% CI 0.244-0.977) for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Using the right internal jugular vein rather than the left internal jugular vein when performing chemoport insertion might reduce subsequent infections.
